I was watching a bit of a documentary about Spain, an underground cartoonist, and noticed that Robert Crumb has a classic Marantz receiver.
For those of you asking, "Who's Robert Crumb?", you are either too young to remember the 1960s, or were too far off the freak road.
Crumb drew this Big Brother & The Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin) LP cover...
...as well as Fritz the Cat, Zap comix, the ubiquitous Keep On Truckin' and Stoned Agin posters, belt buckles, etc.
Crumb is known to favor Jazz and Blues from the 1920s and 1930s, and he apparently listens to it using a Marantz. Can't say I blame him.
Follow Ups:
Here's another, earlier shot.
Very, very nice!
Ho hum on the receiver....
The top champagne/gold piece is a mono Marantz Consolette model 1. It has the various EQ curves that would be required for an extensive and old vinyl collection.
Very nice.

I wasn't sure if that was a Marantz piece or not. I appreciate the update.
I noticed that too. Actually, I think it benefits his extensive shellac collection more. The jazz and blues 78's that he had had long disappeared from the shelves by the time I started collecting records. I would love to spend an evening listening to those 78's with him!

Crumb was and is one of the greatest American Illustrators but The Fabulous Furry freak brothers were Gilbert Shelton.
American Splendor had him meeting Pekar at a yard sale interested in the same records.
Crumb was way out there.
Crumb is an amazing artist -
and do not forget the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers cartoon-
It is reported that he has a rather substantial collection of 78s
so those records behind him are most probably part of that collection-
I cant recall his equipment - but there was a rather complete - at the time - documentary done on him in the late '90s or early 2000s...

Happy Listening
Done by Terry Zwigoff who Crumb plays music with (along with a friend's dad - all are avid, devoted 78 collectors and old friends) when he's in this area.
Crumb ISN'T much interested in money these days, but if you have the right 78 to trade him... well, you have it made.

I could hardly call it a comedy. I loved the art he did and have most of his LPs, but watching what happened to his brother during that movie was pretty tragic. His 78rpm record collecting zeal is comically illustrated by Crumb's cover art on the Yazoo 2 CD set of old timey and blues music.

It's nice to see some of the true artists of that era being profiled and appreciated. Iconic art and posters that captured not only a generation but an era in American history.
The 60's were CRAZY MAN !!! The 70's weren't that bad either if you did it right.
Looks like your basic Marantz 2270. The top piece ???
Here's the artist I was reading up on when I came across the Crumb hi fi picture...
Spain Rodreguez. Spain was a member of the Buffalo NY Road Vultures motorcycle club in the 1960s, as was my next door neighbor when I was a kid. Crazy times, you're right!
That was a not-small part of the "Crumb" documentary. It looks like those records on the shelf behind him may be part of his collection, at least
I wonder what the other gear is? - I was too caught up in the movie to look at details when I saw it years ago.
