The output iron is a C core and when you upgrade the Mc60s with a 100% film cap like I did in this photo along with the normal Jim McShane type tweaks and selective touches,they are world class IMHO.They really bring out a dimension and character in these amps,that was otherwise suppressed with the old components.The 6CG7 in place of the 12AU7 is a milestone in these amps.

is the 30 their best sounding amp?
Many believe the MC225 is the best sounding of the vintage Mac amps. Synergy of 7591 finals coupled with lack of CF driver stage? OTOH, few have heard the MI200 or MC3500.
That's interesting. I didn't know Macintosh made a amp that wasn't at least in the 6L6GC power class. All the amps that I have that use the 7591 class all sound fantastic. I wish that I could hear the MC225.
