Bold Eagle is correct, there were third party or aftermarket wood
cases made for the more popular brands and models for Fisher, Marantz
etc. I remember seeing them in Stereo stores and ads for them
in magazines.
That seems very likely given how different these two cabinets are from one another.

Seems more for amplifier than tuner. Most tube tuners I seen, have tubes from front to back. With cooling grid cover covering the entire unit.Amps tend to have their output tubes towards the back of the unit. Therefore, cover girds toward the rear.
Just a WAG.

Probably right. The Marantz 10B has a complete ring of tubes around its perimeter and would be better suited in the traditional WC cabinet with the large metal screen. I posted a comparison picture of the cut-out styles here:
