Thanks for your thoughts airtime.
To re-furb or not to re-furb; that IS the question. I have not even begun to think of that for this unit. I just had two Mac MC-240's refurbed (a museum piece and an ugly duckling that I have listened to for thousands of hours) and I am in the que to have a Marantz 7T preamp worked over.
An interesting topic for this audience; then do you and what prompts you to refurb an old piece? Is it love of a particular item (my ugly MC-240), is it wanting that museum piece, is it added value for future sale?
I've never really pondered it, I guess I've just been reactive to circumstances (my 7T has developed some issues with fading volume on one channel for instance so its time to put some attention into it).
Probably will just enjoy the 2245 as-is for some time.

My 2270 was refurbed by henrybasstardo,a good friend of mine. I'm glad it was done. Sound quality really improved. Go 'head, get that puppy freshened up.
For these pieces it's a matter of keeping them working. The caps are past there life span and are going to failing. So they do need to be replaced before they take out other things. Besides improving an aging sound. It's not going to blow up but a consideration for future work. So enjoy it for now and think about having it done. Check out the picks over at the Audiokarma Marantz group. Amazing work.
I have a Marantz 250M, yes M being restored right now. Enjoy
Check out this restoration
