Hello.
Just bought a pair of Cerwin vega D9 for my "man cave", so I can play loud "rock and blues" music, while me and my buddies we wax our skis and drink beer!
Anyway, after listening to some CD`s the tweeter sound really "shrilly" and really needs upgraded/replaced.
What would be a better tweeter to purchase to replace the original one?
Speakers are powered by a Hafler DH 500 .
Thank you.
I know, its only rock and roll, but I like it!

With a basic metallised-film poly-carbonate or polypropylene cap, same value. Is there a coil as well on the tweeter?
I'd consider padding the tweeter down a bit as well. 2-3db should do it.

That would definitely help. I am very familiar with the CV tweeter, and to my ears, it is one rough sounding tweeter. If the capacitor is not to big, a surplus Russian oil cap might be even a better choice.
If there is a coil, another option might be to go to a Eminence APT-80 and an L-pad. They are not expensive ($25 each), sound decent and are a real compression driver. It should be a big improvement over the stock tweeter. My only concern would be the frequency of the crossover. I wouldn't cross lower that 3500Hz with a minimum of a 12db per octave slope.

Those used a Foster type tweeter...more of a PA tweeter than
a home speaker type. Diaphragm is phenolic, smallish magnet.
A good tweeter probably won't fit that space. You could try the
piezo horn tweeter...it will fit right in there nicely, but may
not be an improvement...they only cost $3.00 though!!.
A good cloth dome won't be as loud, but will sound better, and you'd
have to trim the faceplate and modify the hole probably.
