Has anyone found a good piece of vintage gear for listening to headphones? I'm thinking that must mean a receiver.
Follow Ups:
Wonder with headphones and a great amp all around.
Every Yamaha preamp that I have tried had a good headphone amp in it. My Hafler preamp on my test bench also has a good headphone amp. any power-amp/ integrated amp/ receiver can be adapted to drive headphones. I have never done it, so I don't know the specifics. For a headphone,
Schiit makes some very inexpensive headphone amps that have a very good reputation. They even have a low priced tube hybrid. I am considering buying one.

You are prolly only using the pre-amp section for headphones. So, a good pre-amp is all you need.
I don't think so, at least on vintage receivers. I've seen them
run off the power amp with 3 to 5 watt resistors on the jack.

Actually off the main board with a voltage dropping resistor

I see you also posted this over at the tuner forum. A wide variety of answers. And here's an even wider answer. You want something for the office. Well try this. You literally have the an entire planet to choose from. The DAC in it is quite good and I use my Marantz NA7004 every day.
Here are just some of the stations available so you can just browse.

Sound quality is virtually the same as a CD. With radio stations, as you already know, you are not really getting analog anyway. All their formats are digital. So you might as well get a good DAC. And this is one of the better ones.My two favorite classical stations are FM100 out of London and ClassicalFM90 out of the Netherlands. I used to live in NJ. One by one the classical stations either closed, literally faded away or were blasted out by other sta-cojonnes.

Addendum: If you get it a Crutchfield you do have a 30 return policy. Try it. You have nothing to loose and the entire planet Earths radio stations to gain.
