That's the stuff. I was reading that many of the big box stores are selling wire that is actually copper coated over aluminum.
Thanks for the working mans tip. I also needed to order some connectors anyway.
thanks again

Charles,
One of my 32 ft pairs is from Parts Express, the other is an "audiophile" brand I paid a lot more for. Both are fine strand rope lay 12 gauge copper. Not surprisingly, they sound exactly the same provided they are equally well terminated at both ends. I also have a fetish about equal lengths in both members of a pair.
Since I have two pair I have also tried doubling up the cables, and could hear NO difference, so, even for 4 ohm speakers, 12 is heavy enough.

Aluminum is a good conductor of electricity. For a given resistivity, you need larger diameter wire than copper. Remember, long distance power transport is via steel cored (for strength) aluminum cabling.
The big issue with aluminum wiring is where it's connected up to other items. Check out the not so pleasant history of aluminum house wiring.

When I was young my first "career" was training as an electrician. Did that for almost five years. I couldn't get into the union and the guy I worked for had three daughters. Each was starting to marry and their husbands were "coming into" the business. I saw the righting on the wall that I was always going to be the worker monkey (and also the brains) to these three troglodytes. Seriously these three guys were idiots!
But yes we redid several homes in various stages of unburntness. The main problem was metal fatigue, separation, then arcing then FIRE. Your house wiring moves more then you think. Especially outlets.
