Anytime you add wire or any electrical component in the audio path you tend to degrade the signal a bit..What device are you using for a source for this setup? This is another reason vintage preamps are so nice because you can set the gain for each source on preamps like the Scotts,Fishers,Macs, and Marantz.
It seems you just want to bring the volume contorl closer to easy chair right?

Yeap, it's the Marantz NA7004. I really enjoy streaming music.
perhaps with my new setup in a smaller room it will be at arms length. Oh that sucks!
I don't imagine the ground leg being more than 4 feet. The positive signal leg will be as short as possible to either the Sherwood or Conrad Johnson.
Doesn't that unit have a remote where you can play with the volume?

No. At one time I was going to buy a Placette ($1000) to go between the streamer and preamp. I figure eventually it is going to be a software fix on my next DAC/streamer. The remote is only to change channels
The Marantz NA7009 is a wonderful sounding streamer and I don't want to give it up just yet.
Or I could use the software on a laptop to control the volume. How good is a computer sound card????
Motorized remote control volume potentiometer are available. Below is a link to one form PartsConnexion.Dave

I already have one in a 49k value. But I would like to get a 10k as well.
Thanks I didn't see that one.
