I'm reworking this unit to run those tubes as well but it may be a bit of a problem with power loss due to opt transformer impedance. This unit is rated at 38wpc while the 7581/6L6gc version is rated at 50wpc.I will try the KT77s in it next.

Nice. Try the amp with EH 6CA7's. My fav tube in the el34 class for stereo.I inherited a 340a and really dig it. Does it come near the 296? I remember you telling me about Scott's years ago while bsing on the phone.
Whops, I was thinking of the 7591 not the 7027 etc class.

272 is a decent amp and I will try the 6CA7s but first I'm going to try the Genelex RI KT77s. I won't just the unit until it's recapped. I'm running the metal based EL34s in there right now getting different ideas.

Sonically I would say the 340A sounds similar to the 296 within its power rating..I have a 340A all rebuilt and a 340B all rebuilt..Both of these are fine units.

I'm too cheap to buy the Gold Lions:) Let me know how they compare.
Nice to know about the 340A. The Scott stuff sure looks cool.
Btw how do the GL's compare to a good set of JJ KT77's?
