I recently purchased a Grundig KS750U console. When we got it home, it worked great. Today, it no longer powers on. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Keith, I have this huge radio I found called the Telefunkin Concerto. It played when I first plugged it in. I remember it had a power terminal just like the one shown. I let it go for awhile then decided to use my variovac to bring up the caps slowly. The power cord fell off that 2 prong job and there was like a bolt of lightning in my small apt. I'm not sure what happened but I had only one grounded plug in my apt, and I'm not sure if that was the one. When the cord came off it was in a side tugging motion so I think the zap happened the second only one prong was connecting. I still have not re-fired it up.
Maybe you guys can tell me what happened and what precautions I should do to re fire it up so that won't happen to Keith.....Mark K.
Go to the switch and turn the unit on and off a few times very rapidly..Being this unit probably wasn't used for a long time,it isn't uncommon for the switch to get a little gummy or even oxidized and not catch. Also, try turning on the turntable by itself to see if it spins just to make sure we have power to the unit.I have seen cords develop a weak spot and it may worked long enough just to work that one time after you moved it home.

Well, I found the problem - wire has come undone (see picture). If anyone could help me in telling me where to attach it, I'd be grateful. It's probably really simple for this crowd, but I don't want to connect the wrong wire and screw up the unit forever. Thanks.
that is a flat 300ohm antenna lead in wire and that will not cause the unit not to turn-on.It solders to the black coaxial wire in front of it or it could go to the screw right above it..There is no voltage on those terminals and no chance of hurting the unit because it is simply the antenna connection. This isn't your problem tho.
Do you have a voltmeter? Put your meter on AC volts and see if you have 120v coming into the cord that is riveted into the back you pulled off the unit.

It wouldn't hurt for you to check that fuse.

I hate to be a party pooper, but if you can't tell the difference between that wires are connecting a coax antenna and wires to a power supply, should you really be messing with the voltages that are present in a tube console?

We all have to start somewhere. I think he may have a bad cord that may have gotten stressed when it was moved and made just enough contact to work that one time after he brought it home.

If it is just a cord, that shouldn't be hard, but as soon as you get past the power transformer, you can get zapped by the filter caps even when the unit is off. Of course, bleeding off the power is no big deal and his are probably not charged, but you have to know that you need to do. I do it every time. Why take chances.

Do you have any pics? I have what I believe is a similar if not the same model.
