Hi, great info Dak. Thanks, I was wondering about the gold ends and soldering, if there was a different twist in the soldering technique. Eli, how do I get in touch with Jim McShane? His name kind of sounds like a Duke Wayne character...Big Jim McShane...thanks guys...Mark K.

Hi Mark, I am just addressing the generic type octal tube sockets that are so cheap when compared to the vintage sockets. As far as soldering to the pins it is not an issue so regular soldering techniques are fine. It is just that the quality is really not what you would want to deal with in terms of the fit of the tube into the socket which is pretty critical in terms of long term reliability. cheers, Dak
Dak and Eli, I found (Dyna-parts) and they have the sockets for 3.50 that they use in the ST-70, Mark 4 and Mark 3's. They said these are the ones that are included in their kits. I bought them. I wouldn't have until I got or understood what info you guys gave me, and I thank you again..sincerely Mark Korda.
