The Migs themselves are probably the fastest fighter jets ever conceived..The radar system was not up to par with ours supposedly but I'm sure they have it figured out by now. Tubes definitely have some advantages when it comes to being affected by magnetic fields when we are dealing with RF.

Not only was the SR-71 nominally faster, it could loiter at Mach 3 far longer due to its all titanium design and ability to switch to ramjet operation.
the nearly identical Skunkworks cousin, the F-12 was designed as an interceptor. Follow my link for details.
No it was a reconnaissance aircraft. It was said that at full speed it would take the radius of the state of Utah to turn around.
Maneuverability was not it's strength. Speed and altitude were
Interceptor / reconnaissance
Did you ever see one in person. It is actually a beautiful looking piece of aircraft / art.
The only bugaboo about the SR-71 was while on the ground it would leak wildly. That was because the skin had to heat up and seal itself.
Fun Fact of the day.

There is one parked underneath the wing of the Spruce Goose in an aviation museum near Portland OR.
Yes, I was aware of Kelly's design that was optimized for heat exoansion. At speed, the nose glowed red.
they also mention thermal stability and being able to place more electronics in the outer bay sections of the plane using tubes.
