snagged off fleabay $280. It's going to retire my garage system (a 'modern' Onkyo HT receiver which I'll finally use as HT). Supposedly new caps, lamps. It's only 38wpc but I'll be using my Triangle Comets (90db), was thinking of getting a WC22 wood cabinet for it ($138) but not sure if it'll fit (I assume the '22' is for the 22 series?).
This will be my umptenth Marantz over the years. Love them!
wooo hoo!

I sold a lot of Marants receivers. Pioneer was the loss leader, JVC was the "engineer's" (today we would cal it "Techy's") rcvr, Marantz was the Artist's choice and Harmon Kardon was the Audiophile's preference. If a woman came into the store, they seemed to be drawn to the Marantz (Though almost always accompanied by male BF/Brother/Dad/Friend or a Friend...)

and Harmon Kardon was the Audiophile's preference.
That was the only brand of receiver sold at the shop where I worked in college. That's where I purchased Acoustats and Threshold Stasis amplifier.
Coupling a 430/730 with ADS 710/810 and a Philips 212/Sonus cartridge made for a good entry level system.

If you really want a nice (new) cabinet, then check out the link.By the way, that's a beautiful receiver you have there. There is something just so damm cool about a Marantz receiver - they are as fun to look at as they are to listen to.

wow great cabinets, a bit above my pay grade but nice indeed!
For some reason I prefer the Marantz's without a cabinet. I did build a few of my own in walnut. And did a very nice job if I do say so myself. But again in the end I preferred it without that cabinet.
If I get another one I may get the 2226b. A real LOOKIN AT kinda stereo.
Just sitting here listening to my Sherwood playing Beethovens 6th
I'm sitting in a hotel room with my ADL Cruise dac/amp and my trusty Sennheiser Momentum cans, listening to Sammy Hagar and The Circle........
I had to find my happy space after seeing Paul Ryan's jug eared head on the news. God I wish he would drop dead.

Ah YEAH!
...or even Will.
That's a beautiful receiver, in any event.

Before moving across the country in 1970 I sold my Dyna tube system to friends. After settling in San Diego I bought a new system including Advent speakers and a Marantz receiver. It had a two-digit model number (23? 27? no longer sure) and I relied on the reputation of Marantz from the '60s. Foolish me!
That Marantz looked nice but was a sub-par performer. Then some dope-head neighbor kid did me a favor and broke in while I was at work and stole it. So I built a Citation 12 kit (very nice) and got a used Dyna Pat-4 (not so nice) and never looked back.
I know the following Marantz receivers, such as the 2270, were much improved but mine was quite a disappointment.

So you best just send it off to me for immediate disposal !
No just kidding. I'm a REAL!!!! Marantz fan. One of the bigger mistakes I made was selling off all my vintage Marantz gear. However in the future I do plan on buying at least one receiver just to have in the collection. Mostly just to look at.
I'm partial to the 2226b sound wise but I always liked the looks of the original. Like the 2238 you are buying. My very first was the 2230. My least favorites were the big monster power receivers.
Please post your findings and reviews.
Enjoy!!!!!!!!!

and added them to my watch list. These are the same ones I absolutely drooled over in high school(mid 70s), knowing I could never afford one back then I settled upon gazing at the colorful brochures I'd take home instead.
Fast forward to today, it took every ounce of my will power not to spring for one of those, but I felt they were way too out of place in my garage.
