I'd go with the Spendor BC3 with just one caveat. You need an amplifier that drives difficult loads. I recall a magazine in the 70s saying that every amp should be tested on the BC3. If it drives a BC3 it will drive everything. But recall Spendor was a good as it got back then and the BC3 adds a fair amount of bass extension and loudness to the famous Spendor sound.
Follow Ups:
As an owner of Spendor BC-1's, I would agree. The original poster did not say, but if the amps are single ended, you would have to use the speakers as headphones to get a reasonable volume out of them. If he doesn't play too loud, he could probably get buy with PP 300B's, which are similar to triode wired 6550?KT88. PP 2A3's could work too, IMO.

Push pull triode would likely drive the reactive load. But the most you'd get out of PP 300bs is about 28 watts and even less for the 2A3(although it's a better, more linear tube. And on really dynamic music there would be clipping on peaks. I'd want more power.
Thank you. I do have one question about the Spendor - has anyone seen a gloss finish Spendor bc3? All the ones I have seen so far are wooden enclosures. Not sure if this pair has been re furbished..
