Space for 2X big speakers is something I've never had. I'm an apartment dweller.
I have a tweaked pair of early generation ProAc Tablettes. Other than deep bass, they do things right. The Tablettes need power. A "McShaned" H/K Cit 2. or AVA FET-Valve energizes them. Some music will definitely benefit from subwoofer help. Not surprisingly, I can do that too.

Curious you should mention the Citation and AVA amps.... I have a Citation in storage that will be resuscitated once we make our move.
The Proac Tablettes are another speaker that I would like to hear too.
I've been apartment bound for the last 16 years, which is frustrating for someone who has had previously had lots of space and no volume limits for my audio hobby.

Eli, You and I think alike. I use a Cit II or an AVA 400r to drive original AR9s. No bass problem though. Appologies to the OP for sidetracking.
