750 TT. Trying to felp a friend long distance. Unit has been in storage and he says it - now - won't start up. Strikes me that it's worth saving

Worth saving yes. Probably only via diy though. I wouldn't spend much doing it and wouldn't pay a shop to do it since it would very very likely cost more to restore than its value when done.If it needs just a cart and an idler wheel that plus just two hours of labor it would be a good bit, easily over $100 minimum probably $150 or more.
If it had other issues and took more labor hours which is very likely then it gets just too expensive.

I would agree that if you were paying someone to fix it, the money would quickly exceed the value of the table. However, a DIY is worth a try, because even if you wreck it, a non working table doe not have much resale value, so it is not a big loss.

Agreed. They're not that hard to work on. Plenty of how to videos on the net. A cheap cart for maybe 40 and an idler rebuild for 35 by Gary at Voice of Music if diy was the route.

A Shure M35x can be found for under $40, and should work great on that table.

My father used one as a 78 turntable. I think it is worth saving. Usually on these old changers, the oil solidifies and the mechanism gets stuck. It is a little tedious to clean but not rocket science. Below is a link to the service manual.

Good Evening!
I'm not sure what you're recommending I do with future responses. I was really just trying to be helpful.
