On mine, It will test 12ax7's but you cannot go by the good/bad zones. A good 12ax7 will read at least 1200 on the transconductance scale. The gain settings are 95 for each triode. 1200 is still underneath the "bad" section of the scale.

thanks for the reply, yes I have heard this before about the 12ax's on this tester, I have tried to be as clear as possible about this, but what I am saying is that any 12ax will not resister at all the needle does not even move, not even to 1200 or in the "bad" zone..
I wonder if the calibration is off as in it's reading low on everything and so low that it will not even trip the 1200 that the 12ax typically reads at..
there are no instructions on how to calibrate, I heard it's difficult..
As noted in my other reply, I did calibrate mine after I bought it. Instructions are in the 707 manual.
I might also suggest checking the link I posted. They might have more experience to answer your 500 question.
