I'm the second owner of a very clean pair of Dyna A 25s. The crossover cap has been upgraded and the screens removed from the tweeters. All drivers seem to be in good working order and the speakers sound quite nice. They are currently in storage.
However, if I move later this year I hope to install them in a den/home office system.
I've read recommendations for both the Seas 27TDFC and Morel MDT-20 as a replacement for the original tweeter. But those recommendations seem to be for replacement of damaged/failing (and no longer available) units. My question: is the Seas or Morel a noticeable sonic upgrade when original tweeters are still working?
Thanks if you have experience with this as an "upgrade".

Follow Ups:
I upgraded to new Morel MDT-20's found inexpensively on eBay. The stock tweeter is OK the Morel is clearly better. This is a simple upgrade and well worthwhile in my opinion. I was able to quickly sell the stock tweeters helped pay for much of the cost.
Our A-25's are used in the living room for music, TV or Movies. If I were to use them for a dedicated system I would do as Airtime suggests.
FWIW my speakers are very early units in perfect condition with the vent located above the tweeter.
Please let us know what you end up doing and your thoughts.
I own a beautiful pair I found which were in climate controlled storage for 20 years. I upgraded caps, replaced resistors, removed grill from tweeters, and installed better binding posts. I have otherwise left mine original. If yours sound good, I would just leave them alone.
Sure, you can replace the tweeter, but why would you? You can chase the upgrade rabbit hole forever but to my ear the original A25 is a sweet speaker. Use the upgrade money to buy more music!
Yes!
And that is no reflection on the original A-25 tweeter. At the time of production that was a very good tweeter for it's day.
the Morel is no longer available. It also doe not have as a robust range as the Seas. And the Sea does have a sweeter upper treble tone. Fuller upper end but in NO WAY edgy or bright.
If your A-25 is happy then one day treat yourself but no need to rush it.
Thanks airtime. I've read the Morel is out of production but may sometimes be found on Ebay. I know you've recommended the Seas too so I was thinking of ordering a pair while still in stock at Madisound.
I'm old enough that my high frequency hearing is lost so I'm more concerned with the sonics of the tweeter at its lower end, just above the crossover.

Yes, the Seas tweeter is one of only two or three tweeters made (last recollection????) that is even capable of going down to 1500khz. And actually make music doing it!Some claim to go that low but it's basically bull. The 27TDFC is a very robust tweeter particularly in that low end. If you ignore the cost (the corner stone of audio sales) the Seas tweeter IS one of the best made today.
BTW - this is going to be the next Seas classic speaker.

Hi MP3, Airtime and Krank were both right.
Dynaco answered your question around 1973 or 1974 when they came out with the A-25XL. They knew the A-25's tweeter dropped off before the range of human hearing so they came out with the A-25XL. The XL used the Seas H-86 tweeter instead of the H-87 that was used in the A-25. The XL was more efficant and had a slightly different grill that used Velcro so that you could take it off easier, and the grill was slightly bigger, you could see less of the wood veneer on the front of the speakers edge with the XL.
I had a question about taking the screens off the tweeters concerned about diffraction occuring but someone told me to leave them on for another reason beside rowdy pets or people of which I can't remember why...Mark Korda
Thanks Mark, Charles and Krank too.
I owned another pair of A-25s maybe 30 years ago. With those I added wood bracing inside the sidewalls, just above the woofer, then replaced ALL the stuffing. I also installed a new crossover cap and removed the mesh screens from the tweeters. At that time I could hear improved detail and extension in the stock tweeter without the screens.
Now in my elder years my hearing is lost above 8K. So I removed the mesh from the tweeters in my current pair based on past experience. Possibly I should have tested myself to see if I could still hear the difference but I didn't do a before and after comparison. Anyway, that is why I was asking about affects of a tweeter upgrade more for midrange performance. So hopefully the new Seas model will be positive in that respect.

Then the seas should be a great improvement. It has more"meat" to it in the range you CAN hear. My hearing is the same as yours. After around 10-15khz - nada.

The original SEAS H87 tweeter, dropped like a rock in frequency much above 13Khz.
