My guess would be that the Dynaco A-25 was....'voiced'....with a tube amp?
Follow Ups:
With a ruler-like impedance curve the A25 works well on both and the A25 will bring the best out of either tube or transistor. For tubes, I am partial to the classic paring of the Dynaco Stereo 70 or Mark IV (PP EL34) but if you want more power, a pair of Mark III (PP 6550/KT88)will give you a lot of slam. Really, any good KT88/6550 or EL34 PP amp will shine with them. For my ears the SCA35 was not enough power (UL PP EL84), However, I reserve judgment for pentode EL84 amps such as Scott, since they put out more power, but I have never heard any of these amps driving A25's. Hopefully inmates who have will chime in.

I occasionally use my Sherwood with el34s. Wonderful and no problems.
I would expect the Sherwood to be an excellent choice!
