I have a pair of McIntosh XL-10 loudspeakers (from the ol' Harvard, MA town dump, of course) in pretty hurtin' condition.
Decent Philips tweeters but otherwise pretty uninspiring looking -- and these are in sad shape. The other one is even worse -- as I recall (I didn't pull it out today), the PR in the other one is sans its accordion surround and the cardboard (if memory serves) "diaphragm" was just sitting inside the cabinet.
I am trying to decide if they're worth the effort to rehab -- even enough to give them a listen. Thoughts?
Specifically, I guess I am interested to see whether anyone has any experience/tips vis-a-vis rehabilitating the passive radiator?
all the best,

...back in the day, while working for a MC dealer, we never sold a single pair and it was even hard to unload the demos at half price. Most everything we sold sounded better.
Not their best effort.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
I may leave 'em on the freebie pile at the next NEARC swapmeet.
... just have to decide if it is worth scavenging the tweeters.

It is probably a nice solid box. Maybe you can re-engineer it. There are some very nice new mid-woofers and passive radiators out there. I don't see anything wrong with the 2-way passive radiator design concept.

...the ADS L520, Polk 7b, Yamaha NS30T and the Dahlquist DQ-5M.
I remember the day I sold the demos. A couple came in, saw a 50% off tag on a pair of McIntosh (!!!) speakers, listened to them and bought them without comparing them to anything else.
Like airtime said, take the tweeters. They may come in handy one day ...and since they say McIntosh on them they probably have some FleaBay value.

everything else about these made me wonder, "WTF?" :-/

Hey take the tweeter!
I'm sure you can find something to do with that.

Madisound shows some passive radiators on their site. Maybe 1 of what they sell can be grafted into the "boxes".
Since passive radiators are "equivalent" to ports, perhaps you can plug the opening and vent the boxes, to achieve your purpose.
