I think muse's point is that the "shock" stood a fair chance of being faked. Sadly, that seems to be a routine element of reality TV -- they feel the need to create dramatic tension so the situation always needs an element of something going wrong. Then you have the "cut" to the commercial so you have to stick around to see how things turned out. The stock formula is almost always annoyingly obvious.
It also doesn't help that the acting is typically bad.

Hmm... something fishy here. I've shocked myself quite a few times. But, never to the point of tripping a 20-amp breaker. Prolly be dead if that happened.I can't even remember a shock causing the onboard fuse to blow. Accidental shorts due to screwdriver touching something live --- yes. Shocks I've felt --- no.

I've seen two guys trip a 15 A breaker years apart and feel pain, a good bit of pain and be fine. It's possible.
