I have a Dynaco ST70, PAS Preamp, FM-3 Tuner with the original tubes. Units appear to have been in storage since Ike was President. Anyway to clean the dirt and filth off the tubes without destroying the stenciling (i.e., DYNACO/Mullard EL34/6CA7)? Or to retain the fact that they are original just not touch them? Thank you in advance.
Follow Ups:
Use canned air to blow off the tubes, then take a soft makeup brush to dust off the tubes, including the printed areas, be very careful over the printed area. Then use a water based glass cleaner and Q-tips to clean the rest of the tube. DO NOT use any type of liquid on the printed areas, just clean around the printed area.
Some of the old inks were solvent based and are reasonably rugged-
others never were - I am thinking of the white lettering used by equipment MFGrs like H H Scott, Fisher etc.
try mild detergent and water - warm works a bit better and is easier on your hands

...white Mullard lettering is extremely fragile: etched date codes much less so.
I use a soft brush in vicinity of lettering to revmove surface dust and a damp rag for remainder of tube. A slightly damp Q-tip can be used in areas close to lettering but don't let it touch the lettering itself. As always, test cleaning process in an inconspicuous area first and use great care if you want to maintain Mullard lettering.
