I was buying a reel to reel tape deck off of a gentleman on Craigslist. He threw in a few other items, and one of them was a tiny turntable, the Garrard Model 50. It works fine, the speed seems good.
But when I put on a new cartridge, and tried to adjust overhang, it was a full inch short of what my protractor said it should be. I was using a Shure cartridge with a new stylus, probably from the 70's or so. It goes only to about halfway in the headshell.
When I have gone onto YouTube and watched videos of this table, I can see that the stylus goes past the headshell, making up that inch. I wonder if Garrard used a special cartridge/stylus combination that fits its tonearms? I can't align the cartridge, obviously, so I worry about how it would affect records.
Anyone understand what I would need to use this 'table?
Thanks,
David

There is also a dedicated Garrard forum over at Vinylengine. You could ask there.
I found this thread with a quick search, it answers most of your question. There seems to be a good bit more if you google it.
