This is probably the best place to post this question. I have a boat with external speakers and some in the cabin attached to a stereo head unit. I also have a marine band radio down in the cabin. Even if I turn the volume on the marine band to max I often can't hear it even with the stereo off. I want to use one of the external speakers to also get a feed from the marine band. This is a safety issue at times. Can I wire it up like an ordinary speaker? What if the stereo is also on when a call comes in? Will this cause a problem?

That's what I thought. Just wanted to make sure. I suppose I could put in a selector switch to choose the source. Could be more trouble than it's worth.
You will need a separate external speaker for the marine band radio. You cannot have two different sources feeding a common speaker. Each source would backfeed the other, possibly causing damage to both.
My father tried that and blew up an SAE amp that I had given him.

I've repaired many TVs that the owner connected to the speakers and the stereo at the same time, the TV always seemed to loose.
