As surprising as that sounds you can get bass from an 8" sub. In my TV room my "cheap" Paradigm system uses an 8" sub. And yes those helicopters and earthquakes do come through.
And at one time I did try it with my main stereo system. It did work and I'm a picky ass when it comes to my stereo.
The ONLY problem I did have is the upper end roll off. Being a smaller cone the upper octaves are more noticeable as opposed to a larger cone size. I know that should be the plate amps job, but that's the fact jack.

If it is the Paradigm that I liked to in my earlier post, that looks like a sophisticated sub. It has lots of power and a long through. The woofer looks very well engineered. While you can certainly pay more than the $825 it lists for, that is not chump-change IMO. I would expect it to perform well.
For my 10" subwoofer, which I can't remember the name of (thrift store purchase, the model used to be sold by Audio Advisor)I let the speakers roll off naturally and roll in the subwoofer under them, so I am crossing about 55Hz, give or take. There are no upper octaves coming out of my subwoofer.

Naaaaa, this sub is a POS 8" HT sub.
It can pass for working with music , but would I keep it FOR music - NO!!!
You are right. A 10" is should be used for musical use.
