I hope these are vintage enough, 1969-73 from what I can tell. These are similar to the JBL L88 speakers, 2 way ported design with nice walnut enclosures. I have always liked 2 way designs, but generally preferred the "East Coast" sound to the "West Coast" sound.
They are quite heavy. The original owner had added some nice metal casters to the bottom of the speakers(which I have removed).
Any thoughts about vertical of horizontal placement? I have these at work in my office, powered by a (solid state) Marantz Esotec PM-4 integrated amplifier. I found an JBL L88 manual online, sensitivity is listed at 76 dB/1 watt. They sound more efficient than that.

The walnut veneer on these speakers is very nice. The trim on the grills appears to be solid walnut. I cleaned the surfaces carefully with some Murphy's Oil Soap in warm water, blotted them dry, waited overnight for complete dryness. Then I used some Scott's Liquid Gold (pourable, not aerosol) on them. They look fantastic!
The original finish was probably an oiled wood (tung oil?) with a not at all glossy appearance. The wood looked a little "dry". Doing one perfectly horizontal surface at a time, I dribbled on the Liquid Gold, spread it around with my fingers, leaving it looking very wet. A few places absorbed the initial application pretty fast, so I dribbled a little more on. I didn't wipe off the excess, left it on over night. The next morning the finish was matte oiled wood, but so much richer looking.

Heath used to license speaker designs from major manufacturers and make kits of them with Heath cabinets. I recall Acoustic Research Heaths as well as JBLs.
The Heath versions of most of the drivers used a trademark greenish-blue color on the frames, and even on the usually-white JBL LE woofers in their kits. I think, though, the Altec drivers were the same color as the retail versions.
The Legato AS-21 (Altec drivers) is on my life list, but I will have to hunt longer, as the prices continue to rise.
Yes, I'm pretty certain the AS 38 Is a kit form of a JBL L88 speaker. I think they offered a kit AR3 as well, plus some lower priced modelsThis ebay vendor agrees

Apparently Heath sourced the kit cabinet parts from other sources but got the official parts from JBL and AR I suspect the reason for this is that the cabinet makers (perhaps in house) for AR and JBL were probably not able to build a cabinet as a kit.

That spl figure is measured at 15 ft...maybe a JBL thing, the
industry standard now, is 1 meter. So it would it would be
in the in the 80's spl for sure. The L88 picture shows pretty much the same drivers as the 3-way
L100, I don't see a real difference, besides the grille.
