Folks,
I have acquired a pair of Macmod Quad 405s. One works, one blows fuses on the driver (?) board.
It seems to me the best thing to do is to send both amps to a qualified technician.
What think you?
Follow Ups:
Hard to believe that my Quad 405, purchased in early 1978, still works. The only thing I've done to it was replace both channels (1989 - the left channel blew). Have had no problems since, though some have advised me to replace the caps. If the amp's sonics have deteriorated, I haven't noticed it.
Believe Steve still works on his earlier products in addition to his current SMC components. Worth checking with him at least.
"You can't know what the "best" is unless you have heard everything, and keep in mind that given individual tastes, there really isn't any such thing." HP
Steve was my first call. He is no longer service these amps.
Sounds like a plan -
Good luck
Happy Listening
