its the most powerful sounding 124wpc amp i ever heard. easily compares to other 200wpc amps. otoh, if you can find a 5802 and afford that, then that's special.

Too late. Found a 5400 for a good price. I'm done buying amps for now.
Thanks for your advice.
that's certainly good. you will be surprised how powerful the 5400 sounds, and my friend and i agreed that the 5400 sounded a bit better than the 5500.

I liked the GFA535 when I used to sell Adcom.

have you ever HEARD the 5400? it doesn't sound like only 125wpc! it sounded great on my friend's martin logan reQusests.

The 5400 was after my time in the business. I know Adcom bashing is very popular on the asylum, but my experience has been very favorable. I have heard Marin Logans, and like every good electrostatic that I have heard, they can be brutally revealing of flaws. If the 5400 sound good driving them, that says a lot for the amp. I hope to hear one!

Just got the 5400 and have it playing now through a restored pair of KLH 23's(waiting for those 3's...). On first listen, about 15 minutes in, sounds very very nice. Big power, but not glaring or "solid state" sounding at all. I am running it with a Van Alstine modded Super Pas 3, but I think overall that doesn't have that much to do with it. The 23's are certainly more efficient than the 3's, but I'm liking what I hear thus far. Seems like I have the earlier model made in Japan. Not quite sure what the difference is between it and later models(which were made in China evidently) so if anybody wants to chime in be my guest.
My experience with MOSFET amps (VSP, Kyocera) that that they do tend to sound smooth and musical. I am sure that the Super Pas helped too. I ran a Conrad Johnson PV-3 driving a VSP Trans MOSFET for quite a wile, and the combo was always very musical. Happy listening!
