Yep been to Classic Speaker Pages and studied it all. That's where I got the idea to pick up the Crown XLS1000 for less than a couple of Franklin's. It's well liked for driving various hard to drive AR's, including the 3's.
At some point I'll look into more powerful tube gear, although from everything I'm reading I'm going to bet that for quieter listening in my smaller space, the 500B is going to be a nice match for the 3's. No, it won't rock the house, but that's not the goal with the combo. They both come from the same era(my 3's are from '64 so a couple years or so after the 500B's birth) and I'm betting they'll place nice together.
These are the "new" speakers btw.

They look great, and I am sure sound great.
The 3 is a 4ohm speaker and may not be an optimum match for the transformers of the 500b.
I use a restored Fisher 400 and a pair of AR92 in our summer house. The 92 is essentially an updated 2a/5 and an 8ohm load. I like how the combo sounds, however power is barely adequate.
I suspect you will eventually want more power than what is available from the 500b. You will be shocked at the quality of bass response when the 3 is driven by 60-100 watts.
Best, Ross
Well I don't have them yet. Those pictures are from the previous owner, who did the complete restoration. I expect them in the next week or so.
I have other speakers that I will continue to use and enjoy with my 500B. I'll try the 3's with it as well, since my space is rather small, and listening levels are moderate. But otherwise I have 3 amps with wattages of 170, 200, and 350 watts that I'll be trying on the 3's. Will be looking forward to the shootout.
