But it works both ways. We celebrate thrift shop bargains but are outraged when a thrift puts a real price tag on something that's essentially worthless, as in this case. In either case it's the same ignorance at work.
A used book and LP shop I used to frequent charged $2 for all LPs until the owner decided to look stuff up on ebay (no doubt offered prices, not completed auctions). Suddenly many ordinary LPs were $10 or even $15. Of course, nothing was graded and no returns accepted. But I found an obviously valuable LP that hadn't appeared on ebay for a while for $3. I guess the owner didn't know about popsike.com, where the average price is now $100 (and was even higher back then iirc).

A lot of the vintage electronics you guys collect and refurbish to use as actual music systems have become collectible as decorative mid-century modern antiques, even if they no longer work.
I have a circa 1970 Panasonic Orbitel TR-005 TV from my childhood that I keep as a decorative piece. They routinely sell on ebay for $300 and up. I suppose it would still work with a digital adapter, but ...
