Just curious about the loose tube sockets. The output tube sockets have always been loose for me and never had a problem until now. Do any of you think this could be something else like the cold solder joints mentioned or a resistor starting to go? I just wonder as to why it only happens after a 30-40 min period of time and never right away if its a loos tube socket.
Follow Ups:
Have a look at the Power Tubes in a darkened room to check for red plates. I have had amps start to hum and pop due to red plates. Also the inmates suggested re tensioning the tube sockets, this is another cause. A bad power supply or bypass electrolytic cap can also cause popping sounds
The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten
Worked for me by accidentally banging into my Sherwood one day.
That's when I decided it was time for a complete restoration.
