Thanks for your feedback. This post is not about possible rationales for an alternative classic circuit (as in my previous Tube DIY post), but rather about keeping the circuit of the WA-P2. Does anyone have any experience with this Heathkit preamp? Are there any suggestions for improvements of the basic circuit--besides replacing bad caps and other parts, and the use of some higher quality parts? David

Compare the circuit to the Fisher 50C.
The Fisher 50C has a huge worldwide following for pre-RIAA disc collectors. Japanese audiophiles were hoarding these since the '80s. Lately, on the bay, they command jaw-dropping prices.
Fisher EQ switches were a bit better than on a Heath, but the Heath remains a sleeper in value; if you approve of the split stage passive phono EQ. With the value of the Heath below $100. each today, any classic circuit can be built inside...if you approve of the modifying a vintage item...
