I'll take it! $159 each kit.
Follow Ups:
I'll take it too. Around four thousand bucks, factory wired, in today's money.
December, 1960. So was that the Golden Age? Or is this, with silk thread wrapped transformer windings and such?
The place I work wanted to get rid of it; it just so happens that in college we got lots of these from the Army/Navy salvage yard and repaired them.
So I jumped on the opportunity to own one. My wife just about s**t when I brought this home. Before moving a few years later, I sold it in the yard sale. I wish now I had pulled every tube in it and junked it. Those Tektronix stamped tubes were top notch -- mostly JAN tubes that were independently test by Tek before installing in their 'scopes.
Ah, good times. That thing was a space heater.
Back in the day, Tektronix held very, very high standards for all their scope components - everything from tubes, to turret boards, to transformers, to switches and so on.
They discovered, for example, that conventional turret boards of the day weren't stable enough to enable stable performance, so they invented ceramic turret boards, getting several patents in the process.
If you want a look at some real point to point wiring art, look inside an old Tek analog scope.
If you happen to be in the Portland area with a little time on your hands, the vintageTek Museum (see link) is very cool, staffed almost entirely by retired Tek employees.
That thing was a ton!
I remember finding one of those when I was a kid and almost couldn't carry it home.
Wonder what ever happened to that scope? Just disappeared - strange????
...a guy was leaning on it and I said to him: "That scope that you are leaning on? Its twenty-five bucks." He whipped out his wallet, handed me the money, and carried it away. Easiest and oddest sale that I ever made at a hamfest.
Later Gator,
Dave
$159 in 1960 is $1,229.33 today. Still seems like a good deal.
Stuart!
The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten
just sayin'...

Mr. Hardy,That is a shocking comment.

That preamp is near the top of my most desired vintage pieces. Oh well!

When I started working-
I also had to wear a tie-
It was a desk job; however the desk was inherited from the previous occupant- and I ruined a few too many ties on the rough edge of the desk-
so I switched to Bow Ties- no more snags....
Happy Listening
love the slide-rule.
