Because there were a few sound crackles now and then, I thoroughly deoxed all the switches, exercised them, and let them rest a couple of days. Then I go to play the receiver and no sound. It lights up, but absolutely no sound. I then checked all the fuses (5) visually and they all look good. So now what? Any ideas? Maybe I should have checked the fuses electronically? Your help appreciated.....Conn

If that's the one I remember it has some posts with wire wrapped around them on the circuit boards. It is probably the switches you cleaned so clean those again, and immediately exercise them, but you may also have to solder those posts/wires. To see if they are your problem use a plastic tool, anything non conductive and tap on them.
My SX-727 would DRIFT on FM. it would be fine one second and jump off-frequency the next.
2 tries thru service at the time were so much GAS and never got to the problem.
Unit was ALWAYS in the wide-open so cooking it was NOT an issue.
Too much is never enough
Exercise the switches again. After Deoxit sits for a time that need often arises. Check the tape monitor and selector first.

If you plug a set of headphones in do you get sound through the headphones?
I think you have pre out main in terminals in back. See if you are getting a preamp feed from the pre out.
I would pull the fuses and check them individually.
