Swap the left and right cables going fron the tuner to preamp. If the problem moves to the right channel then you will know the problem is the tuner or the cable.

Thanks, you were right. The problem is in the tuner.
Do make sure it is not the cables. I had a cable go bad and did not find it until after I had switched around a lot of stuff. Ironically it was the only thing in the system, besides the phono cartridge that I have bought new!
Assuming you have checked the cable, it is time break out the DeoxIt and start cleaning the switches and RCA jacks. I would also check continuity, starting at the RCA jacks. Yamaha has a strange way of doing their RCA jacks and they can become disconnected. By the way, nice tuner and preamp!

Thanks Dave. The cables seem to be okay. I just shipped the tuner up to Electronic Service Labs in Connecticut. They serviced my Nak 410 preamp nine years ago (still works great).
That tuner is worth it.

That's what I thought too.It might cost more to fix than it's worth on the used market. However, once fixed I'd be paying a lot more to equal that kind of quality.
Tuners and cassette decks are all but worthless now. I own some of the best ones ever made, which I have paid next to nothing for. Fixing them to flip is not worth it. Fixing them to use is very worth it (IMO!).

So I noticed. We're a long way from the mid-60s when the Marantz 10B debuted at $650 and all but bankrupted the company. That piece of classic audio gear still commands ridiculous prices, three times its initial retail for one in mint condition.
I'd like to get my hands on one of them, but my Scott 350D is a very good tube tuner. It is FM only, but there is nothing on AM worth listening to around me.
Dave
At least you can play it in mono. I sure can't think of anything I've owned that lasted for almost forty years without a problem!
Yes, over 35 years of trouble-free service before this issue. Can't complain.
