You said post my favorite wood cabinet piece of gear and now you insult my discriminating acumen by telling me I need glasses? If it was 1924,I would bet that piece would be state of the art..LOL
BTW,I did have to up my reading glasses from 1.75 to 2.0.

First off I love the variations in the original post pics. I have a pile of kiln dried black walnut, cherry, magnolia and cypress. I will usually pick the most unusual pattern with the most color changes and knots to heighten the grain. There is a certain beauty in a clear straight grained piece of wood. But that isn't what the custom gunmakers and wood turners chose. As far as ID on your custom case. I wish I could zoom in to really see the grain. I am going to guess black gum. But I wouldn't bet on it! One think about Mikey's fav! Vinyl is Final!
