I admire the build quality of receivers like the RA17.

We probably have at least 25 to 30 hams that post here and if you include the ones that let their license expire for whatever reason,it would be a lot more.
You can get any class of license now without any Morse code requirement. They have all the questions to study right on line and many people here could answer at least 30% of the questions related to electronic theory. This is the first level Technician license,

I did let the ham license expire due to much travel with work. I will renew my license in a month or so. Took the exam on line and easily passed. Did you know reception in MI is quiet compared to the east coast. In fact MI is a SWL delight.I owned a SX-88. I was not impressed when comparing with a Collins R-390. Appearance wise the SX-88 is one of the best appearing receivers I ever owned.
The top performing tube receiver was a R-390A with a R-648 being close in performance. Also Collins S line & KWM series are great for ham bands. Drake R series receivers was close in performance.

I have a pair of R390A's and one says Collins and the other says Motorola but they are identical..My Drake twins I need to go thru and they are nice but the transmitter at 80m loads up on 40m and 40m loads up on 80m. Mine is the B line but I do have a C line receiver as well.
