As Im sure some / many ??? here are aware Jack White is one of the current and popular musicians who love vintage and vinyl. I know over in vinyl his new innovative LP he commissioned has been mentioned.
This is more so an interview about music, great blues music, but a fair amount of the discussion is about gear too. How anyone cant enjoy a good talk about great music is beyond me...
Its great guys like this, Dave Grohl, Black Keys and many others are into the old way of doing things.
I really dug this interview because of the way it went. 2 guys really into music just chewing the fat and enjoying the time. Talking in a laid back way. BTW skip to 4:25 for the start of the interview.
For those also into film. Check out the interview Marc did with Paul Thomas Anderson. An amazing film maker IMO. Who sadly is hard guy to get a good interview with. Charlie Rose has done a good job but hey when doesnt he? :)
Hopefully some enjoy this.

Welcome to the SLT world. A SLT cures a lot of ills presented by the usual tonearm or dramatically reduces them.
I found this out way back in the '60s with the Rabco arm and Marantz SLT. The Marantz was the best sounding table of all I ever owned. A modified SL-8e could go head to head with most anything back then and I suspect even today if working correctly.

One of them--a Technics SL-1210--has a Rabco SL-8E installed. I've been using nothing but LT arms since I got the Rabco used about 7 years ago.
Thing with LT, it's not so much what it does for inner grooves, after all if you've aligned the cartridge correctly in a pivoting arm the stylus should be at zero tracking error on the inner null point.
It's the rest of the album side where the LT really shines, all the parts of the rekkid where a pivoting arm is out of tangent.

purchased in the 80s . It now lives on a VPI table.
Clearaudio purchased the Souther patents and released a number of enhanced versions, the most exotic of which was clearly the model found on the Statement.
Harry Pearson had one at Sea Cliff that was fun to play with. :)
I have looked at plans for a DIY linear tracker, but it was not a light undertaking.

the TQ-1 was $895 thirty years ago and the current Clearaudio version of it, the TT3 , runs a cool $3750.
It was out of my price range on both occasions. I'd better get the Revox working!

I had never got the linear tracking bug, even though I sold a few of them. However, I just picked up a Revox SLT, for free because it has problems. So far I don't think it is anything I can't fix. We will see how it stacks up against my LP12/Grace 707.

I cannot personally take credit for this discovery. The cult figure Don Allen turned me onto this table.
I could go on and on about how great it sounds and its conveinence of being automatic brings to the table. Its really well thought out with the way the tone arm is controlled. Guiding it to a track with your finger is not hard at all.
I was lucky enough to grab a couple of these he refurbed for me while he was still doing it. He hated having them shipped to and from him. Completely understandable for anyone who has ever shipped a table. Not rocket science but close to it they way some pack and handle em. :(
Im not a die hard linear tracking guy. I have and love other conventional tables too. A well engineered TT can be done in nearly any design. Just some stand out as triumphs while others are just there.
Still killer values when one looks at what a nice NEW table will set one back. I love seeing the DIY efforts some of these frighteningly talented folks come up with. Makes me feel like a money wasting fool LOL.
Ever watch his TV show? I caught an episode called "White Van". It's a classic for anyone that enjoys Vintage equipment. Netflix is the only way I know of finding it.
His show "Maron" is on IFC. Lots of cable services don't carry that channel though. IFC also has the show Portlandia.

Oh thats cool. I knew he had a show but didnt know the specifics. I know of him through his association to one of my fav radio "entertainment" shows the O&A show now O&Jim show.
Its cool that he is a big time music and film fan. Lots of those comics appear to be also. His comedy side comes through too.
Not surprised his show is on IFC. He kept up pretty good with PT Anderson on film knowledge amongst other odds and ends.
Will seek it out.
Thanks to you both for the info.
