You would be better off using DeOxit from Parts Express, or where ever. It not only cleans but it lubricates without gumming up.
Radioshack is fine if you are in a pinch. But not for the good stuff.

thanks, it's for a 20 year old yamaha and radio schack is close. I'd probably have to order deoxit online.

I have been able to buy DeoxIt in musical instrument shops.

Caig labs sells Fader D5 that works well as it cleans and also lubricates.
DeOxit works better on metal parts, but maybe ProGold would work on potentiometers.
Just google Caig Labs and order a can. I don't believe RatShack sells Fader D5, they sell only ProGold and DeOxit.
CaiLube was the previous product but was updated by Fader D5.
Happy listening!
Tubes rule!
that's what I would use. So, you aren't dissolving any carbon or lubricants within the pot. Safer on plastic parts seen in many pots.
