Not really a tube, as I recall -- We had a 1955 Buick Special convertible when I was a kid with a tube radio with a vibrator (HV)power supply. I remember them un-fondly -- hum and noise were big problems.
This young lady, from a 1950s Radio Electronics ad, seems to have viewed them rather more fondly...
all the best,

We used to sell the ATR vibratory. Finally, when the ss replacements came out though they were substantially more money were quiet. We used to tell persons the ss converters lasted forever because no moving parts. The mechanical vibrator was good for about 5 years on average.

No it was not a vacuum tube by any means. As a kid growing up in the 1950s it looked like a metal can tube though. 4 pins and it plugged into a tube socket as I remember.
