There is a gentleman on The Gear Page with a very odd looking speaker and wanted to see if anyone recognizes the basket, or the entire speaker.
He was told it was a copy of an Altec 417, but I'm not seeing that.
The cone is marked 100 1208 but I haven't found any info in my searches.
I found it interesting. Thanks for looking if you actually made it this far :)

But I don't recall them having a magnet cover anything like that, but I only recall their 13” woofer that was sold to the DIY crowd about 25 years ago.

I will ask the gentleman to check under the gasket.
He doesn't think it is old or necessarily vintage, but seeing that he was told it was a copy of an Altec I thought maybe someone here had run across one at some point.
The closest frames that I have ever seen like that are on Fanes.
Can you find any markings on the aluminum frame under the gasket???

Nothing helpful from this front but, from the shape of the frame, suspect not as old as one may think. Also, designed to mount from the front and straight sides to the driver rather than round. I wonder what the magnet assembly looks like; I suspect there may be a lot of empty space under the cap.

Most likely the actual magnet pole piece...heavy thick steel,
part if the magnet circuit. Same as JBL did with the alnico'd
drivers.
