It would be difficult not to feel envy seeing such a system. Some equipment is truly handsome, clean, well-proportioned in the manner of Raymond Loewy and other designers. Some current equipment also embodies good visual design, too, of course. HH Scott was reportedly dedicated to good looking gear. The little Kenwood KA-4002 that got me to thinking along this path is pretty good looking and I'm impressed with the feature set the designers managed to include (pre-out/main-in, two Aux, two phono, detents on the tone controls, etc.) in a compact chassis.

Another thought - this is all a tribute to good engineering (and engineering standards). Line-level standards put in service 60 (or more) years ago allow us to connect new sources to equipment built before these sources were even conceived. I;m not an engineer, but I think we owe thanks to thanks to the foresight of people who really thought through both current and possible future needs of the equipment many of us enjoy.
