Yes.
My newly acquired 35 year old SS amplifier is still virgin and sounds MARGINALLY better than Cary SLI-80 amplifier with new or vintage tubes and much better than both of my HEAVILY upgraded Eico amplifiers with vintage tubes that sound like mid-level SS amps in comparison...

Curious, what amp are you talking about that can beat out a $5k tube amplifier?
It's a Sansui AU-517. The seller claimed that it was "unmolested" and in a "time warp condition".
I haven't opened it (and have no urge to do it) but it really makes me feel happy.
I don't say that Cary sounds bad (actually, it sounds nice with proper cables and speakers), but when I am listening to Sansui I feel that it sounds like vacuum tube gear while the rest of my amps sound more like SS units (irrespective of whether I use vinatge or modern tubes, though vintage do sound better).
