Don't do it!
There is no way that bottom of the line unit has the current reserves needed to deal with such a low impedance load. More than 1 of those kind of units got into trouble with 4 ohm speakers.

Nice try! Good money after bad, I'm afraid. Maybe he can find something not too bad (8 ohm) at a thrift.
