I was surprised and a just a little sad to hear this. After reading the article, it makes sense. Glad the Fisher family looks at the development so positively, but for $15 million, I could see the silver lining in the deal too. If it hadn't been for Avery Fisher and his electronics company, I would never have learned to enjoy music as much as I do, play the cello, and now to enjoy vintage electronics. Wish the best for Lincoln Center and the Fishers.

If you buy something and the seller decides he wants it back, wouldn't you expect a refund? I don't see any difference here.
Actually, Avery Fisher did not want the hall named after him, and was surprised when Lincoln Center said they were doing it. He donated about $10.5-million in 1973 for the rebuild. Now his heirs demand $15-million from Lincoln Center to remove his name. Avery Fisher was a philanthropist; his heirs are, shamefully, the opposite.

I heard that the Lincolns got a payout when the hall got repurposed with Fisher's name......
Yeah, it's the height of cheese, IMHO. What's next? Carnegie Hall becomes Zuckerberg Center?
As of now, it's something of a downer.
Seemed a bit sketchy to me for the Fisher family to get $15M back....unless they plan to repurpose the money for some other charity.
or, just finding the cash is more important than the nameplate. These kids are not Avery by a long shot. Few kids are.

Let's go to Europe and try to rename La Scala with a huge donation.......

Well at least they are giving the original donation back with interest. In my book that makes it ok. Otherwise it would be BS and I don't blame the Fisher family for threatening to sue before.
Avery seemed to be an easy going guy from what I have read, so he probably would have been ok with how this worked out. His money was a major factor in making it happen, and that is what he was after most likely. I think the tributes in the lobby are important too, as he should be remembered for helping get it started.
