A minor haul, but cool nonetheless.A Knight 740B stereo, KN-800A speakers, KN-1266 speaker cabs, Garrard 88/II record changer and KN-1401 cabinet. Original price $312 (cabinet an additional $59.95.) Came from the original owner.
Needs a little TLC. One speaker has a torn cone and the amp needs all new caps. What did it cost me? Just a trip to visit my parents' to pick it all up.
I'm a happy guy.

Well, I finished recapping the amp. All of the power supply is rebuilt, all signal path coupling caps, and a grounded power cord.
It has two issues. One is hum. Not much, but audible at listening position. Two is bass, loads of bass. Much more than I think is normal.
The hum was pretty awful without the grounded cord, most went away once the chassis was grounded. The problem goes away completely when the preamp tubes are removed, so I am assuming signal path. None of the input lines are shielded
Not sure about the bass. I'm rechecking the NFB/tone control loop as I replaced the wax caps there. But I'm certain that everything was rewired correctly.

Nice haul. Time to rebuild the amplifier. Those paper wax caps & electrolytic caps are likely on the verge of failure.
I just ordered all the parts I didn't have on hand. Caps for the power supply and coupling caps. I also ordered a matched quad of 6L6GCs.
The speakers have been sent out to have the cones replaced. One was torn along the entire edge and the other was showing signs of age/stress/neglect. May as well do both to keep them matched.
I'll probably have the amp done before Thanksgiving and have speakers back a week or so into December.

The Knight 940A soldiered through some might rough duty in my various living situations throughout the 60s and 70s. It suffered numerous drink spills, drops, cigarette burns, punches, and much general abuse while continuing to faithfully make decent music. I gave it away to a friend in Seattle when I bought a nice Yamaha CA610II which I treated much better.

Nice! Those drivers look good. I wonder who made them? I know Knight used various drivers re badged as Knight, such as EV and Jensen, but those frames don't look like either. I bet it will be a nice sounding system once reworked.
The EIA/date codes on the frame point to Jensen. I think the Jensen model was SG-220.

Looking good. Do you plan on keeping it?

Very much.
I imagine cabinets like this are becoming a rarity.
