I have a pair of original nines that were given to me years ago and I haven't done anything to them..I can't sell them because they came from a dear friend that was like a grampa I never had I used to take care of.
Anyway, try running some KT77s or KT66s or the 6P3S-e tubes in your 8B when you get a chance Jim and tell me what you think.

Yes, try different power tubes. I replaced the GE 6CG7 with Raytheon 6CG7 black plate that sound great.
Be aware that the 8B circuit makes use of the fact that 6CA7 & EL34 bring out g3 to a separate pin instead of the more common practice of tying it internally to the cathode. If you roll in tubes such as KT77, KT66, 6L6, 5881, 7581, 6P3cE, 6550 etc, you bypass this subtle circuit detail. The amp will operate safely with these tubes but not as designed.
