First with my vtvm I ohmd + to _ and reversed leads no needle swing: than went to 1 meg no reading, so open, than tested with my B&K capacitor tester and got a 7.6 reading which should be 4 UF. I am assuming that this is a electrolytic cap in that case this cap is bad. Thanks for your interest maybe I am dealing with a cap I am not familiar with. LEE!

if the cap is physically large, it might be a film cap. if so, you might not see the swing. If it is an electrolytic, it must be a bi-polar. The high reading your getting I would thinmk is normal, many caps have a -0 +10-20% tolerance.
Sounds good to me, (according to the B&K, but it wouldn't hurt to try subbing another in it's place to be sure.
This is a motor start cap, right?

This cap is aluminum can 3 1/8 x 1 1/4 dia. 220 volts motor capacitor for empire 398 turntable. German made, looks and smells like electrolytic but no schematic so who knows also rated at 50 HRZ and motor is a 60HRZ? thanks again LEE!
Lee,
caps are not normally rated in hz, this might have been a way for the production line to differentiate between different versions, such as ones for North America, (60 hz) and Europe, (50 hz)
Either case, a motor run caps should be easy to source. I would first try a appliance parts shop, motor run caps are commonly used for things like fridges, air conditioners, etc.

Well if the cap was designed to operate in Europe and as far as I found out this cap is used to keep the motor on speed will I need a 60 HRZ to play this t/t in the US. LEE
Good question, perhaps someone knows what value cap is needed.
