As far as I remember, no one paid much attention to speaker cables 30-50 years ago. People just stripped thin wires and connected the ends (and sometimes tinned them) to speaker terminals of the amplifier.
Now the situatiuon is quite different. Should I order an inexpensive speaker cable (like single-run Clear Day cable or Acoustic Zen Satori) asking the seller to terminate it as tinned bare wire at the amplifier end or just buy a cheapo cable in an electronics market?
Any opinions will be appreciated.

As another poster stated, many of these receivers with push-to-insert type speaker connectors won't accept larger than 16 (or so)gauge wire.
And, for these terminals I prefer to use bare, or untinned, wires. The copper is malleable and, when the spring clips grip onto it, it compresses it slightly and makes a more secure connection.
A length of lamp cord will do just fine. I'd definitely tin the amplifier end. What you do at the speaker end will depend on what kind of input terminals the speaker has. The gauge of the wire needed will depend on the length of your runs and the minimum impedance of the speaker. A typical 8 ohm speaker will have a minimum down around 4-5 ohms. I use 32' runs of 12 gauge for my Advents. I bought it from Parts-Express. Doubling up on the wire gives the equivalent of 9 gauge, and I was unable to hear any difference from a single run. 16 gauge is fine up to about 12' for an 8 ohm speaker, and 14 gauge to 20'. If you have 4 ohm speakers, cut the run lengths in half.
A lot of the spring loaded terminals (push the lever, stick the wire in the hole) won't accept 12 gauge wire - it's just too big. For those, I use pin terminals crimped and soldered to the wire.

Personally, one look at that pic tells me the answer is ... Yes Indeed!
Meaning you should clearly be able to discern cable differences if you want to or not. lol
But there's nothing wrong with thick clear coat stuff, buy new stuff or snip existing ends of old stuff (for sure).
Does that perform as well as it looks!! Wow!
