Well, i decided to bite on a CL ad for a pair of Advent 5002 with original boxes, pretty decent shape, good grills, no foam. 20 bucks
I can refoam them at home, any best source for the surrounds, are they an oddball size or just standard 10"?
Recap in order?

I've had good luck with the refoam kits from Parts Express. Even though the 5002 has the steel frame woofer, it uses the same kit as the Masonite ring woofer. Just install with the half roll convex; where the Masonite ring woofer used it concave. I also buy the Parts Express 2.5" paper center dome/dustcap as the one supplied in most kits is too large and rings at the crossover point, giving a false brightness. You can also attempt to refoam without putting shims in the airgap, or even re-using the original dustcap.

Well, before you posted I read where you needed to have special foam that was thinner than normal and something about the roll was different and I should buy it from a guy named Rick Cobb (ebay moniker looneytunes2001) and so I did. $22.00 for the kit including shipping which is more than I usually pay but I was out of white glue anyway...
Since it is a 10" one I will just use Davidl's binder clip method instead of shims..seems to work just fine.

but not Cindy. ;^)
All in all I owned three pair of Large Advents back in the '70s. First ones were stolen, then bought second and later added my third for stacked per TAS. Should that remind me of Cindy?
Enjoy. But a word of caution, be sure to find not only proper dimension for replacement foam but correct weight as well. Otherwise you may affect the woofer performance.
Check Classic Speakers site for Advent info.

"First ones were stolen."..who stole a pair of Advent speakers??

I found out it was a kid in the neighborhood needing to support his drug habit. Stole the Advents and a Marantz receive but left behind the AR turntable. Probably thought it had no value since it was not a Pioneer changer!

I was pissed over losing the Advents but the Marantz was a poor choice and not missed.
But I loved the AR table and glad it was left behind. I've ended up owning three of them in my system over the years. They just play music, although I do admire their design as well!
About a year ago I restored one for some elderly friends who quit playing vinyl and then sold it for them. That was fun to listen to for a few days before a buyer took it away.

wonder if Cindy was hot in 1982, i remember buying my first proac tablete naim nait and rega turntable in 1982 and when cindy lauper put out time after time in 83 i brought a audio pro sub i still have the sub and have had it reconed twice but now the amp is dead
i love fixing old audio such amazing theraphy
have fun
The Audio Pro subs were wonderful devices. They managed to get impossible alignments by adding virtual properties to their woofers in the amp. Technically, it's an Inverse Plant Controller that they referred to as Ace Bass. No replacement amp will give the same results - your only recourse is to get their amp fixed, if that's even possible.
Jerry
I stand corrected. Any issues like that with an M&K subwoofer?
Dave
That must have been some line!
But seriously, Parts Express has some very reasonably priced plate amps that could get you Audio Pro up and running.
